alright, y'all. I just found this thread while I smoked my last one in the pack.
Should I go get another one? nevermind already know the answer.
I have tried every nicotine-based placebo on the market. they all suck
considering this avenue & wondering about the opinions of others that may have tried this approach. I'm a 39 yr old 2-pack a day smoker w/ 2 young girls.
I've been smoking for 25 years. every time I light up, I feel guilty because
I don't seem to have the strength to stop this ****.
I'm not asking for help, just advice. I'm pretty big on finding my own way, but I may be over my head on this one
thanks

Brian, I don't know about everyone else...but I will give you my opinion. I truly believe it has nothing to do with any kind of aids, hypnosis, patches, etc. I think it is an internal thing in every quitter that just sounds the alarm and lets you know "its time to put this **** away". I too am 39 years old, 21 year long dipper of 1 can a day cope, and I have tried to quit numerous times in the past. I look back now and realize that I never truly tried to quit, only tried to see how long I could go without a dip. I have now gone 40 days without a dip. I have not used the patch or gum, I just quit cold turkey. I ask myself why this time was different and I honestly don't know. I just know that the last time I spit a dip out, I told myself "thats it...thats the last one" and thank God it was.

I have not smoked in 9 years. I looked in this forum to see if there was something here to help a coworker. Habits can be broke in 2-3 weeks after that it is a mindset to not return to a prior habit. I read research somewhere about this 2-3 week thing were if you have a way to interrupt a habit for that period of time it will require thought to do so instead of a subconscience reaction. That being said I believe that hypnosis will get you past the 2-3 weeks. A friend and his wife did it several years ago with success.

Have you tried Zyban, or Wellibutrin? This is how I stopped smoking, Zyban. If I can do it so can you. You might want to ask a physician for help. But you can do it!! If you feel guilty when you light up, you will continute to feel guilty. Therefore, you will stop smoking!! Think what 25 years of nictotine is doing to your lungs, and heart. Well I won't preach and tell you everything you already know. You couldn't pay me to ever start again. The smell makes me nauseous. I complain when I'm around cigarette smoke. I won't go anywhere near it. I don't mean to be rude, I just know how you feel. You can't imagine your life without them. But you can quit, and I have faith in you that you will!!

Like everything else on the market, it will help some but not all. I know a few that had great success with hypnosis. I know some that tried it and were smoking again before they got back home. Called it a sham.

But boy do I have a GREAT joke here about hypnosis as a means to kickin' the habit! I don't dare post it because Mont would smoke ME. :D Trust me though, it's a knee slapper!
