I kicked tobacco 32 years ago...cold turkey, and way before it was the fashion. So I know what y'all are facing. And if I can do it ANYONE can do it. As one who has been there and done that (sorry, didn't get the t-shirt. :D ) I just want to start y'all out by wishing EVERYONE the VERY BEST OF LUCK!!
You'll hear it said that nothing is worse than a reformed smoker. Well I'm the cat that proves the rule. If you EVER need any support, encouragement or just a friend to help you succeed please feel free to call upon me. My cell phone is 281-772-6131.
Note: You might want to talk to Cool Change before you call me. He'll varify what I'm about to tell you. I'm sincere and I'm serious about anyone trying to quit but some people tell me that I speak the truth a little more plainly than some folks like to hear. I'm graphic in my illustrations and when I point out WHY we should all leave tobacco alone I'm quite blunt. Some folks have found that approach to be helpful but not everyone.
I mean no insult. It's jsut that I'm so passionate about it. I don't have the time or the inclination to use the kidd gloves.
God bless you all and again...GOOD LUCK. It's the right thing to do.

It's a heroic thing y'all are doing. Just remember that YOU are in control. One thing that separates man-kind from the animals is that we have free will and the ability to reason. I used to think that it was a matter of intelligence. I mean, only an idiot would smoke, Right? Well, that isn't how it works. I know because There are many, many people that are way smarter than me and they seem to be unable to quit.
My daughter is a doctor and board certified oncology surgeon. She tells me that each of us is born with a propensity to form habits. The plain truth is that some of us have more addictive personalities than others. A valuable tool in defeating any enemy is the knowledge of how that enemy works and just what you are up against.
If you have tried to quit dipping or smoking and can't it doesn't mean your stupid, it just means that you have a more addictive personality than some others and you will have to struggle and work harder. But remember, You can think, you can look down the road and see what might happen if you continue to use tobacco products. You can do this...you absolutely can!
Smoking and dipping will not give you cancer, emphisema, or heart disease. What it WILL do is dramatically increase your chances at all three. Your propensity to contract any of these conditions is hereditary. Again, some are born with a stronger liklihood of cancer etc than others. When you use tobacco you INCREASE those chances, what ever they might have been to start with. The more you smoke/dip the greater the increase to YOUR chances.
OK...I'm off the box now. Sorry to preach. I know y'all already know all this. Pardon me if I get carried away because I'm so excited about this new forum and the prospects of so many people achieve their goal.
One more time....GOOD LUCK!

I didn't know this forum was here-great idea! After a heart attack, 3 cardiac catheters and 10 stents within about a month, I figured it's time to quit. I tried going cold turkey-bad idea! I turned ******* of the year! So, I am tapering down. I am down to about 5 cigs a day at this point. My cardiologist won't let me use the patches, gum or anything because the nicotine contracts the vessels, but he has given me Wellbutin and Ativan. Anyway...a few more days and I should be down to zero/day.

Welcome to the group Centex. When you quit for good, log in every morning to the roll call to let everyone else in the group know you will be tobacco free for that day.
