Hi,
When you say early morning, youu must be fishing from 12am-8am.
Anyother time the cat's come out of the water cooked and ready to eat.
Haven't been in a long time, just tooooooo hot for me to fish.
This sureshot is this a dip bait?
I haven't seen this bait.

YOu wont see SureShot on the shelf. You have to order it shipped to your door.
Two places I know of...

have you tried danny king or mr whiskers. we caught a lot of cats on somerville and fayette before it got so hot. these two really worked good. i know the dk is good because i went to lake lavon and the first time ever on the lake and we got 10 the first day. a couple of nice blues.

Try Hog Wild. I never had good luck with that punch bait, but an old buddy of mine used to tear em up with that stuff.
