What kind of leader do yall use while fishing the surf? Really don't want to lose a bunch of flys to the toothy critters that roam the surf!

Try the flexable wire in 20-30# strength.

Try the flexable wire in 20-30# strength.are you refering to the plastic coated wire? what knot do you use to tie it with? i know crimping is an option, i'm looking for a backup method .. just in case i leave my crimping tool at home :)
I rigged up a bunch of big poppers for barracuda with a 4" piece of titanium. I twisted on a small spoon wrap on both ends (one through the eye of the popper and the other to tie on to) and finished with small crimp sleeves. They don't weigh down the fly or change the action. I expect that I'll still loose a some but that's why I rigged up a lot of them. Hopefully they won't hit the crimps or the knot at the bite guard.
