We are in the process of choosing electronics for our new boat and could use your opinions. We have decided on a Garmin 498 GPS/Sounder, as we have always had good luck with Garmin products, and that particular model fits our needs the best. We've got an ICOM VHF new in the box that we never installed on our current rig, so that is taken care of. What we need help with is a stereo system.
We have never had a stereo on a boat, and I have no idea what the reputable brands/models are. Do the same companies that make good car stereos make good marine products? I have noticed that Jensen's seem popular, but I know thier car stereo stuff is generally junk (used to be anyway). We want a CD Player/radio and 2 speakers (6" I believe) that are to be mounted inside the electronics box (under the k-top) facing downward. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

In my opinion,
Poly-Planar is the ONLY way to go. Simple installations, very expandable system, and it was designed in every way for saltwater fishermen. Don't waste your money buying them from "boat stores", get all the stuff on E-bay (new only) and save yourself a bunch$$.
I literally hose the unit down when cleaning the boat, and never had a problem... also, salt water was splashed on the unit on nearly every single trip.

I also have a Poly_Planar radio/CD player and have had zero problems from it. I wash it down after every trip and it has never missed a beat. I also recomend John of Tightline Rods to buy it from quik easy and great service not to mention I have yet to find any one who can really beat his prices.

Several good brands ...some cheaper some not!!!!
I'm a bigger fan of warranties on stereos ...it's not "if your going to have an Issue" it's when!!!!
Thanks for the kind words guys...
The true mark of a company is what Customers say about them !!!!
Let me know if I can assist and we can work up a package....
