Got there about 5 Friday morning. Amount of game in the reserve was pretty amazing. It is a VERY BEAUTIFUL park! Lots of deer and racoons, a few coyotes, armordillos, fox, plenty of cat squirrels.
Caught a 33" red at the first spot we stopped. Just knew it was going to be an epic trip. Did not happen. According to my buddy, even the jug fishing was terribly slow. We still caught plenty of fish. We released a dozen or so 18 and 19" reds off the jugs. The channel cats in the lake are BIG. We probably caught 35 or so and they were all 3-6 pounds.
Saturday night we decided to rod and reel for flat heads. I caught one and my buddy caught one. Didn't measure them but I'd guess 25" or so. Released them both. We missed six or seven fish that we were certain were flat heads. One of my buddies had a screaming run and we're pretty sure it was a big red.
Brought home a quart bag of cast netted tilapia fillets. Grilled them up with some 'maters and eggplant out of my buddies garden and also had a pan of au gratin taters. Pretty good grazin'!
I look forward to my next freshwater red fishing trip.
