After some 30 years of building rods I broke down and bought a factory made rod. I wanted a four piece 8 wt. and bought an Echo...father's day coming up. A fellow that I have done business with for a long time had four in his small tackle and repair shop a few months ago and had sold all but one. After some research on reviews and casting the rod, I wound up buying his last one. I took it out to a pond this afternoon to give it a workout. This rod is a moderately fast rod and I had to adjust or slow my cast somewhat. I have been using stiffer rods that you really have to punch. The rod is very light for an 8 wt. and shoots line very well if you don't try to overpower it. The price was $147 and it comes with a rod case. I tried a TFO but had to overline it to get the casts I got with this rod and an 8 wt. line. I think this would make an excellent starter rod or even a good rod for someone that likes a slower action rod. It is so smoooth. Now to tie some Borski sliders for my Rockport trip.
