As a matter of fact, this morning I was deep in thought at the computer working on a special tribute to our World War II vets.
The arrival at the front door of a birthday gift of live Maine Lobster from Eric and Sven took me off the project while I ooohed and aaawed over the beautiful wiggling lobster.
I hope to have the tribute finished by this afternoon so I can post it.
You cannot imagine how this post, your post, affected me. I have often been afraid that I bored people to death with my talk of wars, the Civil War and WWII.
I guess I talk and think a lot about WWII because when I was a little tyke in the 30's I kept hearing adults talking about Hitler and what he was doing to Europe and its peoples. Then in 1941 , when I was just entering my teens, the the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor. My brother, who was in the Infantry at that time, was sent to the South Pacific.
I surely don't want to use my memories of WWII to depress people. But I truly believe we have a tendancy to forget about those things in today's "instant gratification" society. We are in such a hurry to get on with life that we don't pause long enough to consider the heros of our country. I keep hoping that reviewing WWII will keep us from ever forgetting the price our young men and women paid to keep not only our country but the countries of others free.
Thanks for your encouragement. I hope to have the project finished in time.
Below is a photo published 4 days before my 16th birthday.
