Since this forum is on a fishing site, has anybody looked into financial stocks that are related to fishing, especially recreational fishing? I've only found a couple of pure plays. One is in commercial fishing, Omega Protein (OME). They are a huge menhaden fishing company, constantly at odds with environmental organizations and recreational groups concerned about their fishing on a primary prey species in the ocean ecosystem. Omega Protein took a huge hit with Katrina and Rita in 2005, with two of their three menhaden processing plants in the Gulf destroyed or heavily damaged. However, I think they are also fully insured.

The other pure play is not available to most U.S. investors. Rapala is a publicly traded company, but it trades on the Helsinki exchange.

Here are some U.S. publicly traded companies I've found that have some relationship to recreational fishing, although in most cases it's just a small part of the overall corporation.

BC -Brunswick Corp. - Manufacturer of fishing boats and engines
GRMN - Garmin Ltd. - Manufacturer of GPS navigation equipment
HZO - Marinemax - recreational boat dealer
JOUT - Johnson Outdoors - Manufacturer of Humminbird fishfinders, kayaks/canoes, Scubapro dive gear
KTO - K2 Inc. - Sporting goods manufacturer, including Shakespeare and Pflueger fishing equipment
WMAR - West Marine - boating supplies dealer
WMT - Wal-Mart - World's largest distributer of fishing gear

I've traded WMT a few times. Malcolm Berko does a column each sunday and recently didn't talk to favorably about walmart. however about a year ago he sounded much more favorable. he is usually right on
