They got hit: Here is the word from the local newspaper the Boca Beacon

Boca Grande is returning to life on Monday after taking a direct hit from Hurricane Charley Friday afternoon as the eye of the storm roared through Boca Grande Pass and into Charlotte Harbor, lashing the island with winds of more than 150 mph.

Damage across the island was substantial. There have been no reported injuries or fatalities. The cost, however, is obviously in the millions of dollars.

Power is gradually returning to the island. Water service is being restored. Most of the downtown area has power, but it could be days until the southern end and Boca Bay are back on line.

It is estimated that between 75 and 100 islanders stayed to ride out the storm. The Boca Beacon is operating on generators, but we are posting a few photos and the webcam is up and running. We will be attempting to publish a special edition of the Boca Beacon later today.

Glad that wasn't us and glad there were no injuries. Would a trailable boat, such as that in the last picture, be covered by insurance if damaged by a hurricane? It saddens me to see people who don't take care of their babies.
