I know its a taboo subject but this kind of stuff irks me. Why does he have to be a Black American Olympic Champion? Cant he just be a Champion? Im proud of him as a skater and an American. Dont tarnish his Gold Medal by making a race issue of it. Guy is the best of the best right now, his skin didnt make him more aerodynamic on the ice so lets just call him an Olympic Champion and congratulate him. Man this stuff is stupid in my book.

Because it prolongs the end of racism, and then what would the media, Jessie, Malcolm, ect be doing?

I just dont like the fact he thinks he is the shet, but wont be a team player. Thats what makes him stand out to me.If your are in the Olympics representing the US, you compete for the US not make it out to be "I just here for mines owns stuff". Punk asss!!

We are known as "Team" USA, right?

He is just playing to the press and selling himself. Selfish, hugh ego, heck yes but he is playing the game to the hilt by creating controversy. Another millionaire in the making. You can bet he has someone advising him to take this tact.

Here is another side that did not make the papers. "Kelly Willy" LSU track star won a gold medal at the Rome Olympics in the mile relay. Kelly, known to me as Jeremy, ran track for me at Jackson Int. in Pasadena ISD. He played football, basketball and set two eighth grade records that still stand. 100m..11.1 and the 200m...22.6

Jeremy is black and he was treated just like anyone else. He came back to Jackson last year to visit the coaching staff and talk to the kids. NO ego in this young man, he carried his medal in his pocket and passed it around for all to see. He is a team player just like I taught him during his 7th and 8th grade years. He had good coaching at Houston Sterling were attended HS and is a team player at LSU. No me, me or I, I out of this young man. He might not be a millionaire after his track career is over, but he will do alright.

The dude has an ego problem and isnt a team player. My point was why do we have to put "black" in front of every sentence about this guy? I admittedly have my own prejudices, we all do, but mine arent of color but of actions. Id just like to see it portrayed as an Olympic Gold Medalist, not a Black Olympic Gold Medalist. It should be irrelevant.

WWJD? (What Would Jesse Do?) Highlight the fact that he is a black athelete in a mostly white sport so that the stereotype of blacks being trodden upon can perpetuate, and Jesse can still have a job.

because thats the american politically correct way to do things. If you are minority, you must have your race stand out or know one will know how even though whitey gets all the breaks you have still made it in this cruel racist land.

Did you not hear about Bryant Gumble the other night on his HBO show? He's ready for March Madness because the winter Olympics are all white and it looks like a Republican convention.

Racist at it's best. He and Nagin are bro's!!!

funny thing is Gumble is a bigger cracker than I am. lol Oh well, as usual its a double standard. They overcome all odds for being black while we are expected to succeed because it has been given to us.

I agree gator
I asked a similar question a few years ago.
I had to attend a cultural diversity class and the instructor was a woman of , as she put it African American heritage , I asked her where she was born ?
and she stated Houston Texas. I then asked , why she had to keep referring to herself as African American ,not just an American and had she ever been to Africa ?
she got a little sharp with me and stated that no she had not ever been to Africa but it was her heritage and she was proud to be an African American .
I then asked to be referred to for the remainder of the class as an English, Czech,Polish,Dutch,Irish, Native American.
the sad part is that only about half the class got the point.
as long as we place racial labels on ourselves , racism will continue divide us

That was exactly my point, the people who wish the most for racism to end are the ones who deliberately keep it alive.

In my 60 odd years in this great State af Texas, I have seen racism at it's worst, and at it's best. I remember very clearly the colored drinking fountians, restrooms, drive in movies, and most of all....segregation. It was something that was just accepted back then, and people of all races had much more pride in who they were, and more loyalty to their family, their country, their God, their work, and to themselves. Today....no one wants to take responsibility for anything. Pride has left the building, and I am not talking about Charlie.
If you have not pulled you head out of the sand in the last five years or so, then it is time that you did and realize that we have lost the United States to immigrants from the South, East and middle east. The Silent Majority has now become the Silent Minority. I am afraid that we have let it go too far to ever get it back.
I have been in commercial construction work for the past 40 odd years, and a Union Man every day of that time , I might add with pride. We used to have Local unions for every phase of construction work, and when the building was finished, it was done with the finest and most knowledgeable labor in the world. Now days, buildings are thrown up in one third the time it used to take to build the same size building, and the costs have shot up so high, I don't know how anyone can afford to build anymore. There used to be a Local Union called the Laborers Local. The Laborers were mostly black men who worked hard every day for their money, and were proud men that took care of their famlies. Today, you will seldom see a black construction worker on a jobsite. I asked one of the few black workers on the job one day,"What happened to all the black construction workers"? He told me that they were all at home drawing welfare checks, and selling dope to all the white boys.
Now, the illegal immigrants have taken all the work, and our colledge kids can't even find a part time job to help them out in the summer. The Powers that be have told us that the immigrants are just doing the jobs that the Americans don't want to do. To that I say "BULL****". We are giving our country away to the people that walked in here and took it from us. We have become fat and lazy, and probably deserve whatever befalls us. I just hope I am gone before this country that has been so good to all of us is invaded by a forgien power, and we will become the spoils of war, and you won't have rights, or a life anymore. It is a sad state of affairs that we have gotten ourselves into, and all I can say is God please protect my kids and grandkids when the time comes. As the old Saying goes "We have seen the enemy, and it is US"!

SO? I dont think the first white dude to hit a 3 pointer in the NBA got any headlines. I do consider Jackie Robinson a Great American Ballplayer.

Different ideals we have I guess.

What is sick about the whole thing is Gumble gets a free pass and if a white reporter asked where the blacks were, he would have been run out of town.

Actually, they do not really want it to end Zac. It is what perpetuates their power. There is no incentive for it to end for those types.

There are groups of people that are easily recognized. Mainstream. Then there are those who feel that they are not excepted as the "Norm". Therefore they add an indentifier so everyone outside the box knows who they are and they gain recognition as a group as they want to be seen as.

Gary, Yes that's the fact.

But it still doesn't cover the part about nothing being said if it's a cracker and nothing is said. The ole Double standard rises to the top AGAIN.
I think that was the original statement. Not justification for the black man.
