Two reports released by the Government Accountability Office and the Homeland Security Department's office of inspector general detail a series of accounting flaws, fraud or mismanagement in their initial review of how $85 billion in federal aid is being spent.
The audits found that up to 900,000 of the 2.5 million applicants who received aid under FEMA's emergency cash assistance program -- which included the $2,000 debit cards given to evacuees -- were based on duplicate or invalid Social Security numbers, or false addresses and names.
Thousands of additional dollars appear to have been squandered on hotel rooms for evacuees that were paid at retail rather than the contractor's lower estimated cost. They included $438 rooms in New York City and beachfront condominiums in Panama City, Fla., at $375 a night, according to the audits. Like we couldn't see that coming. Alot more is going to be wasted and nothing we can do about it. Hell, just putting NO back together is a waste, IMO.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Wait till this is all over and we have rebuilt thousands of homes and buisnesses and bought all new furnishings for them. Then we'll take a look at the tab. They are suing FEMA now to keep them from stopping hotel/motel payments for evacuees still staying in them. In my opinion if your *** is still layed up in a hotel room 5 months after the fact and you dont have a job/money yet, then you are not worthy of the money that I drug my fat arse out of bed this morning at 0330 to make so you could sleep in until housekeeping wakes you. Im hating the lazy bastages more and more every day. Yea, I used the hate word too. So what, I earned that right when I showed up for my job this morning that I make sure to keep so my family is taken care of. I dont need/want any gubment assistance. Didnt get it when I was homeless and wont get it now. Im going for a walk. lol

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

Good to know I have to support these people also. Maybe I could get a couple of SS numbers to claim on my taxes. This way I won't have to pay. Hell, I'd settle for an even break. **** I hate tax season.

Well
Sorry, not surprised. I guess I better get my taxes in the mail before I get in trouble.

Why does everything with New Orleans always seem to include the words 'squandered' or 'wasted' or.....? Seems any adjective describing New Orleans can be can be replaced with any adjective describing a bad drug deal. 'Blown away' or 'gone South' or....

If they would just leave the levee down, and leave the city underwater, just think of the structure all the little fishes could live in and all the tax dollars WE could save :)
