Anybody have any input on building a rod specifically for sheepies? Ya know....the kind the old timers use? I don't want to put on a reel on it....just a fancy cane pole of sorts......I don't know??? My uncle wants one and I figured I could use a couple for me and my boys this winter. I don't even know where to begin on this one.....I just know I want a couple and I want to build them myself! lol

Get a long blank and put a tip top on it to tie the line to? I think Bass Pro Shops and Wal-Mart sell some rods like you are talking about for crappie fishing. Maybe you could look at them for some ideas.

The crappie rods are the first thing that comes to mind for me also. I would like these to be a beefed up version of that. I'm hoping others with experience in this area will speak up. I build rods as a hobby and I think I this project will prove to be fun!

I don't know how much $ you're thinking to spend, but a 2piece 10'-10 1/2' fly rod blank would be a cadillac sheepy rod. Roger Seiders of FlexCoat built me a long casting spinning setup on one about 10 yrs ago. I use it w/ a casting cork/jig for sandies in tailrace areas. Just a thought.

in Florida, they are used to get snapper out of the mangroves. Should be easy to make on a 10' blank.

Thanks for the input guys........I'm thinking flyrod is the ticket. I'll be back after I do some more homework.
