I have 2 harddrives in my computer the primary is a 60 gig WD and the slave is a 30 gig Maxtor partitioned into 2 15 gig partitions. I have Win 98 SE on the Primary and Win 2000 Pro on the first partion on the slave. I have been getting a blue screen with white letters that say something to the effect of memory dump has started with a lot of numbers. This has only happened about 3 or 4 times in the last 3 months. The only way I can get rid of the blue screen is to shut down the puter with the switch. When I start it back up the mother board won't pick up the slave harddrive. I have to tap on the harddrive to get it to start.I have replaced all the cables with new ones and it still does it.
Could this mean my slave harddrive is going out???
If you have to tap on the drive (we used to also put them in a freezer, then reinstall them to recover important data).
There are usually on two reasons you get a stop screen (BSOD), Hardware or a driver problem. If you look at the screen you will see the numbers, five sections total, the top section is the error code (this is what I need to look it up for you or you can go to microsoft and look up the code yourself here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;KBHOWTO
The middle section is a listing of all of the drivers that were running at the time of the crash, and their respective memory addresses. The lower section contains a dump of the memory modules that were on the memory stack at the time of the crash. (the middle and bottom sections are for delevopers and pretty useless to everyone else).
