A handful of members of the Alamo Fly Fishers (AFF) from San Antonio journeyed out and camped out on the North Jetty at Port Aransas in search of midnight tarpon under a full moon. Approximately 9 tarpon were jumped by the various members. Congratulations to Mike Lee for landing the only tarpon of the trip. Redfish and Spanish mackerel were also caught.
Beautiful blue clean water and good tide movement made the trip very enjoyable. The Shark Shack was over flowing but the great overnight weather made things very pleasant. Next time we will have to have a snoring section 100 yards away from the shack.
Via Motorola radios we were able to keep in contact in the dark. We had "designated gaff men" so when a hookup occurred we could safely bring the fish in without endangering the angler. PFD's and safety ropes were also on hand in the event the Gaff Man fell into the channel. Clear safety glasses were worn by all in the event of an errant fly hitting you in the face. I am glad to say no one fell or was foul hooked during the trip. More pics at www.leftyray.com
