Just got to go ride today. Bought this bike back in february as a wreck. Started life as a 98 Fatboy. Finally got it finished, inspected and licenced. This is a pick of me and my H-D Mechanic son. He works at Alamo H-D in SA. He let me help some. LOL It was pretty ugly when we started. Came out nice if I dont say so myself.

I never knew 2Cool had a motorcycle forum. I've almost always had dual sports, had a KLR650 that was a pig off road, current ride is a Yamaha XT225. Great trail bike.
Beer4bait, how do you like the V-Strom? I'm looking at getting a better on-road bike and the strom is at the top of my list (keeping the XT).

The strom 650 is great. I have gone 300 miles in one day on it. It looks top heavy but it is not. It is one of the best riding bikes I have found for adventure and long highway trips. Dont let the 650cc fool you, with the 90 degree v twin makes for more power throughout the power band, it tachs out at 10.5 but on our dyno power is met at about 9.9rpm. 6 speed like your yamaha xt makes it smooth at highway speeds and up. Handling is awsome in the twisties and around town. I am getting a money saving 68 MPG. I started demoing a maroon dl 1000 vstrom, at 38 mpg it was a disapointment and the weight made me think about a 650 which is very quick for its engine size, you would have to compare it to a 1100 cc cruiser..........and then the 1100 would fall short in rpm and complete power through almost 10000 rpm. I have ridden the Yamaha and Honda 1100s and their power does not match. The only bike I like other than the strom 650 would be the KTM or the beamer, but parts and service are few and far between in the middle of know where........where I like to be :) I could have demoed the 650, but I bought it and will keep it. If you want one send me a pm. I love it, and there are few bikes I have not ridden. The only things I have added was heated grips ( I ride year round ) , Cramp Buster, and deer whistles........oh yea a cargo net. I am building a gun boot like the ones on an atv and getting the saddle bags soon. I wanna hunt with it also :)

I wish I'd never have sold this 03 Wide Glide..live and learn. Not because the Road Glide is a bad bike, but the Wide Glide had a great tune, cam, and big bore kit making 102 HP and 106 torque.

Picked up an '08 Suzuki V-Strom last weekend, also found a great deal on an '07 Suzuki DRZ400S that I couldn't pass up. My brother was riding the DRZ over the weekend. All I've ridden are dual sports, he's only ridden street bikes. Took him a while to get used to the feel of knobbies on 65 MPH curves.

Nice pair of Suzukes I just sold my DRZ400SM now I just have the Vstrom 650. You will like the strom, I ride mine every day. I mounted the windsheild up in the highest position, added heated gripps, deer whistles, and a cargo net.

Yep, It sat up for so long some oil seeped into the crankcase and as we tried to start it up it blew oil from the vent hose.
