I have a 30lb Penn International IGFA rod, which kept an off balance crewmember in the boat, but the blank broke in 2 just above the first roller guide on the butt side, when it hit the gunwale of the boat.

Can anybody tell me if it is worth repairing, and more or less what the repair cost could be. I think the blank might have to be replaced.

It is a pretty expensive rod, so maybe worth a repair.

I am in South East Houston.

Even if it is repairable it wouldnt be the same rod as before, and it sounds like that is a pretty low break. If no one hear can help you out see if maybe cut-rate will.

I can say it not worth the time. I have done a few job like this one on trout rods and they didn't hold up that long and they didn't even see the pressure a offshore rod is going to see. It the pole is five foot or less there really isn;t a way to cut it down. sound like a good plant stake, or a good set of reams. I have seen rods fixed but the breaks were right at the rod butt and they ended up wth a stiff short rod.

what you could do is.....strip the rollers off....buy yourself a new blank... and use those rollers on the new blank .... would save u a pretty penny... those roler guides cost alot... only thing u might need is a new tip to fit the new blank... and of course grips...gimbal butt....and a reel seat.

If it is a Aftco aluminum reel seat ( or PacBay ) you could most likely salvage it as well.
