Any thoughts or opinions on the DuraTrax Evader Pro Ep buggy?

http://www.duratrax.com/cars/dtxd28.html

Mike's has this RTR buggy for about $170.

Thanks,

Jeff

If you can afford it spend the extra $50 or so and get a RTR RC10B4. Or a Losi (not sure if they make a RTR). First, they're much better cars. Second, if you're planning to race the lack of parts availability at the tracks makes racing a Duratrax a real PITA.

Jeff. Chris is right. The Evader is pretty much junk. Are you looking for something just to bash around the street and fields, or do you eventually want to race? I would suggest getting a truck insted of a buggy for that kind of fun. And if you look around, you can get a top of the line used buggy or truck for about $150 w/o electronics.

Thanks guys.

Right now I'm thinking more play toy then racing. Figured with an extra set of wheels & tires I could play in the street in front of my house or the dirt fields behind it. This is my B-day present from the kids so my budget is supposed to be $150.

I looked at the RC10B4 also, that was the 1st one they recommended @ Mike's. It was about $170 as a kit plus it still needed the radio, receiever and 2 servos I think. The Losis were over $200 as a kit. The DT is $170 complete with all electronics, just needs batteries & charger which I already have.
I didn't realize parts would be an issue. Mikes seems to carry a bunch. Parts availability or the lack there of is why my Kyosho truck is in pieces out in the shop!

Guess I need to keep hunting.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

If Mike's is carrying the parts for the Duratrax then it may not be an issue. And the DuraTrax is perfect for what you want to do. But, I will add, that if you have any possiblity of jumping into a bit of racing, then definitely look toward the RTR or complete kit version of the B4. Losi does not have an RTR/complete kit version.

Another thing would be to look at the truck instead of the buggy like Gary said. For bashing around it may be a bit more durable and stable - just depends on how hard ya bash! hehehehe

Now that's a deal right there! I'm a Losi guy myself and can say that the MF1 was great and still solid - the MF2 just opens up the suspension setups and cleans up the tranny! NICE truck that you cannot go wrong with for sure!

Actually, the Evader is a decent car, especially the pro. Its full graphite, and its modeled after the older Losi XX. RTR for $170 is pretty hard to beat with all the stuff it has on it. If Mike's has the parts for it, I think it might be a decent first buggy.

But, as others have said, a truck will work better for bashing in the yard.

Brew, teh parts really only become an issue if you're racing it because none of the tracks keep them in stock so you have to carry what you might need with you. Parts for the DTX are readily available at several hobby shops, but not where we race. But yeah, for bashing a truck is better. Check with Ronnie, if y'all swing a deal I have a couple of FM radios and receivers we can work something out on.

Jeff. I got an old radio and receiver I can give you. A few years ago it was the top of the line. Airtronics CS2P. That could save you some cash to spend on either a better car, or better batteries. I can send it to my buddy Rob who works at Sams out there and you can pick it up from him.
