Hello all, usually I post the Livingston Report.... not so this week. I was busy working. If you don't know me, I always have a story. So....
Here's the story: Picked up 40,000 lbs of ice on 8-29-05 and set sail for Penascola, Fl. My work buddy was in tow in a diesel behind me. Not east on I-10 but via 59, hwy 20, 80, then down 65. Which means at about 2 a.m. I was in Medirian Ms. If you tie all that together means I was driving in hurricane Katrina. Other than dodging downed trees in rain with an 80,000 veh. the ride wasn't to bad. If the diesel swerved in front of me, I swerved behind him and we seems to be doing good. I know the wind had to be blowing pretty good because the rain was falling hort. and not vertical, but I guess with all that weight the truck wasn't blowing around to much. And no I didn't hit any downed trees...that I remember. My buddy's diesel had 2 blow outs 50 miles from our stop, so I left him as he waited to get his tires repaired. Penascola looked like sunny Fl. After driving all night, I arrived and told the guys there "see y'all in about 8 hrs" and night night for me. This was about 7 a.m. 8-30-05. The company sent 10 diesels which arrived later and we all set out for different sites. After several stops, I ended up in Ocean Springs, Ms. If you've seen the aftermath of a hurricane it generally looks the same. Downed trees, twisted metal everywhere, cars mangled, and downed power lines. I guess the power company's knew what they were doing. They had Ice, food, tents, and crew's. I was sadden by what I saw on the news knowing I had Ice, but this Ice was for the power crews and that was my job to make sure they had it. The crews work from sun up to sun down and come dragging in. They shower, eat, and hit the bed to start again the next day. They deserve all the praise I can give them. I found some guys that I thought were supervisors come to find out they had drove a diesel like me. So we started to set up the tent city's as the crews went out and worked. I helped set up>Ocean Springs, Ms- Harrison Co.-and Hancock Co. I couldn't just sit in my truck, I'd go stir crazy so that why me and the other guys played supervisor. We moved generators, picked tents, and drove forklifts. As I could I snapped pic's. So here's a few around the areas I was at. Look at all the trees bent one way. I am standing on one tree that had blown over and was cut to open a road. Yes, my prayer went out to all that are suffering. My ice ran out so its time to fish again. I did find a nice pond at one camp site but didn't bring a fishin pole. Thats going to be my new piece of equipment for my diesel.
