Has anyone dove the Fogg lately? What was the vis. and how was the fish life?

I am thinking about getting a Rhino Sea hornet speargun and was wondering if anyoen on here is shooting one and you thoults about the gun. I am thinking about get a 48" or 52".

Michael,

after reading the other board i don't think you could go wrong with a sea hornet. however i would recommend you get a JBL Gulf Magnum XHD. it is a lot cheaper than a seahornet and if you have to let go of it, so be it. Also a rig will make the gun ugly quick. i have a 3 month old woody magnum that looks like it was dragged behind my truck & that is with about 30 dives on it. also you can get parts at almost any dive shop, when when stuff breaks is always a bounus

just my opinion. I would love to have a seahornet, Riffe, or Wong but am afraid it would increase my risk ratio as i don't want to explain to my wife why i dropped a $600++ gun. & my risk ratio is high enough as it is.

Unless I am mistaken I was thinking a Rhino was in the mid $300 range.

the SH rhino aren't too expensive - and parts from an AB Biller should be compatable.

of course I have 2 Riffes so I am a bit biased -

I like the Billers over the JBLs - but like the JBL shafts more than Billers

I can't imagine taking a Wong gun and using it for rig diving!

The original thread was in 2 parts. So what about the FOGG?

Michael already knows he needs to get the gulf magnum he just needed to hear it from someone other than me....LOL

George,
Looks like I am in the new pic. If I would have known that I would have fixed my hair.

New to the board, just moved to TX from St Pete...
Had a few Sea Hornets before, I like the JBL Magnum better. The JBL pulls the bands even with the shaft, hence a straighter shot. Some say the Seahornets are quieter, but I don't think it's an issue..

Just my two cents....

Havn't been out off Tx coast yet...You people have Hogfish in this part of the world? Or is mostly Gouper/snapper and AJ? Just curious

Shot them all. I have the Magnum now, and by far is the best bang for the buck.....wouldn't trade it for nothing.

As for the Fogg. Last time went out, got some really nice Grouper and a couple snapper. The day I dove it, viz was decent(15-30 ft), but nothing to get excited about.

Looking forward to going out tomm.

Good Hunting and Safe Diving!

dryes - grouper, snapper, AJ, ling/cobia are our common targets here. we don't have hogfish that I've ever heard.

No hoggies in this part of the gulf unfortunetly:(:( I miss my trips to the bahamas ...sigh..but on the upside depending on the depth of the water you can count on snapper/AJ's/ and grouper is the water is deep enough.

Dove the Fogg on Saturday but nothing really special. The vis. was about 40' with 10' murk layer and then 3' clear off the bottom. As far as fish life only small snapper and trash fish. But it was cool finding a anchor, down rigger ball, and russel lure. I was told you can find anchors all day long. Maybe when I go back next time I will take a lift bag and try looking for anchors.

I agree totally with PHAT!!! I also have both of these guns (Gulf Magnum XHD, Woody Magnum) and I wouldn't trade them for nothing for the price. I just recently purchased the gulf magnum xhd from this site http://www.diveremporium.com/spearguns2.html and you can nearly buy two for the price of the Seahornet. Just my opinion but if you got the bones to go with a higher end gun can't knock you for that. I have the same problem. Going cheap isn't always best.
