Hello all,
Well the cowboy made it back in from the lake again. The question is why are you reading this and not fishin? Cause this report says the fish are a bitin'. No pictures this time cause they are still in the camera somewhere.
Anyway, in my last report I talked about a trot line a guy let me bait, so I ve been baiting that. I ve caught several 6 lb and some other nice cats. <those are the pic's stuck in the camera>. Dad liked my idea of throwing some jugs over board as we white bassed fish and caught several nice cats (1 to 3 lbs). I general use old marine oil jugs since I use a gallon of oil at a time and it lets me find them once they drift off. I don't think I could find water bottles.
Just one last note, I ve have caught my limit of white bass off the old 190 road bed. To many to clean.......ha ha.
Now my story: Was out fishin last night 8-21-05, pulled up to some boats jiggin off the old 190 road bed thought I would trot around a little. Well as soon as I pulled up the boats must have had enough and left. So there I was lonely me in the middle of the lake. I throw out a marker not really where I was catchin fish but to mark my spot if I get into the fish. I can use the marker to judge where I am at. I trolled though once or twice and caught some white bass right off my marker. Then the bass went to schoolin all around my marker. What luck, huh? I had a blast pullin them in left and right. Somehow I believe the fish know when the weekends here. They don't school. But if your out there alone on the weekday the action is on. If y'all want to contact me send an email. I can pick it up at the lake......Lets go fishin!!!!!!!!

how deep do you set the jugs, any weight and what type bait ?

I used the balls you can buy at walmart and had pretty good results and some chicken liver

Vanman, I put about a 3 ft string on the jugs. I just tie the string to the handle and put a hook on the end. I have some with no weights, but I used a couple of hooks that have some weight (they were like a weight with a lead head because I ran out of regular hooks). I have used shad because of the price (free) but I think I am going to try shrimp (on the trot line) because I think it might stay longer. Hope that helps.

I had a few questions for ya. How far down the road bed were you? Close to the river channel? What time did this occur? I use to fish Lake Livingston all the time and always trolled using a hellbender with a spoon trailing behind in the mornings and evenings. Never tried to troll at night for white bass. I plan on heading down there before Labor Day weekend, so any extra info would be appreciated. If you don't want to share this info, please just pm with whatever you care to share.
Thanks,
Steve

Seahunt where you out there the other day? Is your boat a Seahunt?
I m @ the 190 road bed bridge where it crosses the river. Theres a pvc pipe sticking out of the water if you know where that is? I have a trot line out there near the bridge. (you ll know it with the marine oil jugs-ha ha) If you find the marine oil jugs go from the last one to the north towards the pvc pipe. (you ll see both if you find them). Coming off the channel there is a rise underwater that goes from 49 ft up to 9 ft. the 9 ft section is what you want then troll around the white bass are generally in that area. Heddon (hellbender) and pet spoon work a charm. when they were schooling I could have use probably anything. I like a little george trailed with a speck rig in that case but i wasn't set up so hey i just keep throwing the heddon. it was working!!!
they have schooled right before dark in the late afternoon...i d say from 630 till dark. when i came in i could still see but had my lights on if that helps.
