Has anyone tried this method?

It's my preferred method for catfish. I used to use a treble hook with the livers but now I use a #2 circle hook, I just thread it on. I try to get my livers at Wal-Mart, for some reason there is more substance to them, stay on the hook better. There is only a couple of instances in the past few years where I didn't catch a good mess of cats with liver.

I wrap my chicken liver around a small piece of panty hose. Stays on forever.

I have caught lot and lot of cats with Chicken liver. If you have time, marinate them with some garlic powder and use a trble hook.
Good luck!

I usually cat my cats using the method and I also put a lil salt on them to keep it held together

If the bite is slow, also thread a little washboard soap on the hook above the liver and that scent will carry a long ways downstream for a long time. I use that esp. with trot lines.

Look for something like washboard soap at W-M, etc.....If you cant find any, get any cheap cake of soap that has a super strong odor. We get ours from relatives and it comes in cakes that are 8/box and cost less than $10/ box.

I have 40 jugs ready so I'm going to try a lot of different baits, some bought, shrimp, soap, chicken livers, live bream.
Any other suggestions

Baby frogs, chicken gizzards, fat back or rolled up bacon, anything that stinks and leaves a scent trail in the water can work. Tell us later how it went.

I can not imagine a 4' cat that is UGLY .. lol ... All of them I have ever seen , sure have been PURDY ...

You may try a baitholder hook for your liver and also try and thread them through the vains (sp?)

YOu might tyr cut gizzard shad, cut mullet, and when duck season comes around we use duck guts. Caught plenty of cats on using this bait.

I'm going to try a lot of different baits, I'm up to 60 jugs and ready to roll, we are leaving early Saturday and will have 3 days/night at the lake house. My deer lease is close and I will be filling the corn feeder and dove hunting also.
