Looking to put together a list of people who like to dive and or spearfish. Lots of people fish but divers not so many. Boat is decent and works good for diving. Have crew that can handle boat duties. We are safety first oriented, so you need to be. If you have never dove the gulf you have no idea what your missing.........different than Cozumel but better imo in many ways.

Contact via email or PM

Add me and my dad to your list. We both got cert. in Feb. and have made a few dozen dives at Twin Lake and Blue Lagoon to get comfortable in the water. Mine reason to get cert. was some I can rig dive and spearfish. Once we can caught a the seas were we feel comfortable we are ready to make our first rig dive.

Have been fishing offshore out of Freeport and Matagorda for years so I am up to using either port.

bad things that pop is about top go on a shut-down so he won't be able to go for a month or so.

Add me to your list. I live in the Freeport area on the water and have trouble finding diving buddies as well. I have been diving for several years both in the Gulf and the Caribbean. Have done limited amount of spearfishing.

Add Scubaru and Goin Deep to your list. Both experienced spearfisherman and divers. We are good for splitting all costs, and post trip responsiblities. Both work shiftwork so we also have weekdays available.

Hey Tall1fin

Add my fiancé and my self to your list. We are both experienced Gulf divers. I spear fish a lot but she hasn’t taken it up yet. We have a boat (not as cool as yours) that fits 4 spear fishermen and gear fine but only cruses about 20knots. Finding people to go and share costs is more difficult than one could imagine. Email is on the way with personal info.

My wife has not warmed up to spearfishing either but loves diving. Funny, we were talking about spearfishing at the dive shop and lady working with a new dive class came over and sssh'd us to keep it down as not to offend the newbies. :) Fishing is ok but spearfishing is offensive? Well is to the fish i suppose. :)

Add me to the list. I'm sure I could get some others as well if need be. Have 1 out of Houston(as I am) and a couple out of Dallas that could run down. Dive and fish. Never tried spearfishing but would like to. Just never had the opportunity. All good for splitting costs, post trip boat maintenance, etc. Boat I generally fish from is not good for diving at all. I'll send e-mail. Thanks.

Ha... I posted the link to the 403 LB. Grouper shot off Florida on another diving board... geesh... you'd think the guy was responsible for global cooling or something! Spearfishing is definitely not "cool" and not P.C.! Even PADI doesn't like to promote it and does not offer a standard spearfishing specialty. Funny, SCUBA diving got its recreational start mostly from spearfisherman... early diving mags were mostly about spearing, and I remember early covers of Skin Diver with Spearfishermen on them! <sigh>...

I'll PM you later and get us on each other's lists!

:doowapsta My boyfriend and I are blubble blowing junkies!!! He's a spearfisher and I'm hoping to take it on myself - (as soon as I can convince him that I won't loose his gun!!! Both of us are certified and have our own gear. We logged about 30-40 dives in the gulf last summer and are a little behind this year, but hoping to catch up. I'll send you a message with my e-mail address. Hope to dive with ya soon!

WS4F-

I dive and fish out of freeport every weekend. Feel free to drop me a line when you are planning to go out. I have a bay house down there that I usually spend every weekend at. I usually dive with the same guys, but am always up to meeting new people with the same hobby. Feel free to write back or email when you have the time.

Tight Lines,

JG

Tall1fin,

I, too am a closet diver. My experience, aside from a few dives in the Keys and Panama is all freshwater. I've always wanted to do a rig dive, but have never worked up the courage to do so. I would love to join you one day. I will PM you.

New to the boards here. My father, brother, and myself will be heading down to Freeport this weekend. We each have 20-30 logged dives, all being freshwater though. We want to ensure we are safe about this. We have a 29' deep lightweight boat that should be able to handle average Gulf waters.

If anyone is interested this weekend let me know. I'd imagine we could only fit another person, maybe 2. We will be doing a combination of fishing/diving if anyone is interested. We are also very interested in doing spearfishing, although have absolutely zero experience. We will pay for the gas to get out and back, and boat. PM me if you're interested. :)

I don't know how great the boat is for actual diving. But it is dependable. If anyone has any suggestions for a fairly new diver let me know.

Somewhat new to the state. Have not done this side of the pond yet, IM from St Pete Fl. lots of spearos there, however we don't ever use lines, only free shaft ... this might be something different. We don't have any oil rigs, we hit the bottom - Grouper, snapper, hogs and AJ. We usually have to go deep 100-150(especially in the summer) for the big ones..
I live in Dallas now, but plan on making trips down south a routine.
I'll drop ya an email, if you have room on labor day week end, I'd love to get out..Naturally I'll help with expenses..

I have a few friends and wives that like to go spear fishing. I usually go out of Freeport. We went out last weekend and shot 3 nice AJs. I think we're going again this Saturday. We usually put in at Bridge Bait and Tackle. I just got a new 306 Grady White.

My wife and I like to go and so does another friend of mine and his wife. I have a new 306 Grady White and usually go out of Freeport. Would be fun to get a few boats together for a day offshore.

I dive mostly out of Freeport. Log over 30 dives a summer in the Gulf and love to spearfish. Always up for a day in the blue water.

Probably the nearest shops to you are Kenlee's and Sport Diver's I don't know about Kenlee's but Sport Diver's is $175.00 / person. The class runs 2 weekends
call 281-338-1611 for details.
After you learn to dive get some dives in before trying spearfishing.

That sounds nice. Can you spearfish in spearfish in Belize? I am starting to think about spending a week or so in the Keys later this winter for some spearfishing.

I would like to be put on this list. I own a 22' Proline and go out regularly from Matagorda (where the boat stays), Freeport and Galveston. I am a PADI and NAUI SCUBA instructor, an avid spearfisherman and I enjoy fishing too. I have a good group of dive buddies which usually fill my boat (some from WACO and locally). Every once in a while we need some extra people to help fill the boat and help with expenses. I am always up for going out on other larger boats (especially in winter) with more range and more comfort, too.

Welcome to the board Craig! Always good to add another spearo to the mix, looking forward to checking out your website when it gets up & running. I see you work at the NBL, do you work with Marq?

Put me on your list too. Though I haven't done it in a couple of years, I am getting my gear up to snuff for this coming year. I am from the rio grande valley in south texas.

You can spearfish in Belize but not scuba only free diving. If you can get someone to take to out there are some nice grouper and snapper but snapper not as big as Texas. Bring your own speargun too....all you will find are hawaaian slings which are challenging but not practical for bigger fish unless your good. Call me and i can tell you more about the place.
