Our group is headed out Friday, if the weather holds, it should be good!

Turned out pretty good after all. A few thunderstorms in the AM but stayed out of them and had a good day. Ended up getting carried away with the rods and only a 1 tank dive but shot a nice AJ and caught lots more, plus a few nice snapper for grins.

Kind of wishing I would have tried diving cause the fishing sure didn't pay off.

We whacked em' on Friday. A 45# ling, (2) 20# snapper, (2) 15# snapper, & (2) 14# snapper. The Ling was under a patch of weeds and the snapper were, well around some pretty unsuspecting structure. Saw about a 20# Sheephead down there, that was pretty cool, a school of Pompano, and swam outside the structure far enough to actually find my self in the school of kings trolling the deep. Pics to follow, might be a few days with work though. Oh yeah, on rod & reel we caught 4 Kings, couldn't even buy a snapper bite at a location holding hundreds! I think they're getting smarter. They couldn't resist the spring steel worked super fast though. -ru

I have a spearfishing question? Red Snapper, King, Ling are game fish in Texas so can they be speared in state waters or can you only spear then in fed. waters?

ling, king, redfish, marlins, sails, trout, sharks, snook, swords, tarpon, and hoo's are game fish. snaps, flounder, tripple tail, strawberry/rockhind grouper and anything else can be shot. i know some that love sheepheads and triggers. man, they would die if they saw how many, how big they get, and how easy it is to get them in 60' of water.

I understand that so I guess the answer is that you have to be in Fed. waters to spear Texas game fish.

not exactly . . . . you cannot shoot red fish or even possess them in federal waters. i also think this applies to trout.
http://www.gulfcouncil.org/downloads/GMFMC_BRO_REC.1204.pdf

the state also has the authority to regulate any species for which there are no federal fishery management plan or federal regulations.

but yes other than those few you can shoot ling, king, shark, hoo's and all that good stuff in federal waters.
