Planning on going out of Freeport on Sunday and making a trial run to one of the rigs for some diving. Does anyone have any suggestions on a rig to go to with reasonable water and distance. I'll be in a 2300 Century, 200 hp.

but want to hit some more spots, If you need a crew, I have myself and a buddy that works in the Scuba dept of NASA that would like to go. Randy 409-939-6803. Of course we would share the costs. Oh, Also have offshore fishing equipment.

Randy,
Sounds great! We went to rig 303 Sunday and wednesday and had a good time. Sunday the water was alittle choppy but the clarity was great. Sunday the opposite with only 15-25' visuability. My brother will make a good 4th. 2-3 tank dives.

We are planning on fishing Saturday but I will probably also tank my fins and mask to do some freediving if the seas are nice.
If things are real nice maybe we will do go out Sunday to do a little diving.

Michael - you should definately do some freediving or scuba diving around the rigs if the conditions are good. Last weekend there was no current at all. There is alot to see just swimming on the surface. Bring some gloves - the rig is covered with critters that cut and sting.

I always wear gloves when I SCUBA. I will make sure and I have an extra pair in my gear bag.

Well we ended up going with only 2 divers instead of 4.......got one of those 5:00 am no show calls so no time to call anyone else....sorry to those I told we were full. The seas were 1 ft and the visibility early was awesome. The first dive was a rig loaded with Aj's but the second rig had more snapper than you could shake a stick at.....literally dozens of 10-20 pounders and so thick was hard to choose or miss. Was my first time spearfishing in the gulf and can say that fishing on the bottom is much better than on top...:)
I'm glad that I decided to take my shockline off my gun and just hold it in my hand. Big Aj's pull pretty hard and liked being able to hold on to the rig leg to keep from being pulled down. Between dives we fished and no keepers ....go figure! We did catch some bait and had dolphin on their sides eating off the swim platform. Was pretty cool to watch!

Didn't get a chance to dive in the big water still not sure in taking the plunge w/o having an experienced diver along. We went fishing Saturday and had an OK day. Four 3-5# dolphin and about a 15# wahoo.

C'mon in Mikey...the waters fine! We had a couple of very experienced divers. We were only in 95 ft of water and hardly no current. Most everyone had computers and no one went even close to deco. We went to the bottom on our first dive just to check it out but didnt get deeper than 50 ft on last 2 tanks.
