Hey guys,
I'm mainly a saltwater kayak fisherman, but this whole week has been blown out on the coast. Tuesday I went crappie and perch fishing and this friday I'm thinking of going catfishing. Did it a lot growing up, but haven't in the last 10 yrs or so. Here's my question: Is there a place on conroe where I could put in, have a short paddle, and catch catfish from the yak? Thanks for any help and I'll post a report when I get back!

Possible the Cagle ramp on the north end. You can paddle across to the shallows around the islands or if the fish are a little deeper try the different trees where the comorants are roosting. Several fishermen bait various trees so after the fish stop biting (20 min) then move to another. Just fish straight down and livers seem to work best there.
Might be kinda windy there too???
good luck.

Stringer,
I don`t know much about kyak fishing but Outlaw told you the most likely place to go to be out of the wind the best. Although you do need to be in at least 20 to 25 feet of water to catch catfish during the day right now in most cases. And liver will catch you a few catfish. You can go to one of my websites at www.lakeconroefishing.com (http://www.lakeconroefishing.com) and see the fishing report and all the ways to fish for different kinds of fish, depth, water temp. and how too`s.
Sorry, couldn`t find a SPAM button for this reply.

Cagle went up to $5 bucks now. Make sure you have correct change if you go there. They put in a nice floating dock also.

Thanks again guys, Isn't the internet great! 15 years ago I would probably be driving around in circles trying to find access to the lake for an hour.
Slight change of plans, still going to conroe, but my father in law wants to go, so we will be in his bay stealth now. Probably, do the kayak thing middle of next week.
Thanks,

Then try under the 1097 bridge, toss out a few range cubes and it will be on in about 20 min.

Where do you put in under the bridge? Should we just anchor up right under it? I don't have any range cubes, so I guess those are out, since its so late already.

From pillar 18 west to pillar 22 are usually good. Take two long thick ropes, one for the front of the boat and one for the back, and tie up to the over head beams.
Before long we might have to have a tie off permit from the Highway Department or something.

There you have it, from the catfish master himself! Just buy a sack of cube at a feedstore on your way out and you'll be glad you did. probably still be able to do some good without them though.
Expecting some pics with a report when you get back.

One more question. I've looked up many online maps of Conroe today. Where should I put in? Is there a ramp right at the bridge on 1097 or put in somewhere else and head towards the bridge.

The Anchorage Marina on FM 830 is close as is the FM 830 Free Ramp. Scotts Ridge is close but, seriously I wouldn't go much north of the bridge if you are just learning the lake. There are some good maps at Academy and at the Anchorage.
Goodluck.
