What would work best for removing the sticky residue on gel coat, after removing vinyl stickers. Thanks in advance.

WD-40, then clean with rubbing alcohol follow up with a liberal coat of Bow to Stern preservative.

I've used acetone and haven't seen any problems.

X3 with the Goo-Gone. Spray it on and let it set for a couple of seconds then wipe it off. It might take a couple of applications to get all the residue off.

X4 on the GOO-Gone.

I pulled the stickers off of my boat last week and Goo-Gone took the residue right off.

Initialy use a commercial type heat gun and then remove the residue with methanol. Acetone will work but the methanol is less offensive to the nose.

X2 what Tombo said. I just took all of the stickers off of my Procraft Stalker 2 (they don't pay me to run their name on my boat). Also, I didn't like the way they looked. I took a heat gun (looks like a pistol shaped hand held hair dryer.) It worked great, no scraping, just peal them off. In half an hour I had all the stickers off and cleaned them with acetone (methanol would have worked but I already owned the acetone.) Goo Gone works so do the other brands and WD-40 will work just fine too but you will need to wash them off with soapy water a couple of times to get the oilly residue off.
I think a 1500 watt hair dryer would work if you don't have a heat gun.
