I have woodpeckers tearing two of my trees up in the front yard. Is there anything I can do that doesnt involve a bebe gun?

Might try one of those plastic owls to keep them away. Woodpeckers are federally protected birds covered under the North American Migratory Bird protection treaty. Legally you can't even harass them, let alone shoot them.

Woodpeckers usually don't attack healthy trees. Is there a chance there is some dead wood up there somewhere? I had a pair of the pilated ones attack my new house and pecked the window trim and porch support poles like you wouldn't believe. I don't live near town so they aren't a problem anymore. They also pecked the pecan bark off the tree above my deck making a mess.

Are you sure they are woodpeckers & not sap suckers. If you have a bunch of holes going around the tree it is a sap sucker & not a woodpecker. Can not help with how to get rid of them.

I used a couple of fake snakes in my oak to run off a sap sucker a couple years ago. Worked like a champ. Even fooled my neighbor who freaked out ringing my door bell to point out the snakes in my tree that her son showed her........
