Ducked and dodged some rain, and fished in it also. Filled 2 ice chests, 55 to 60 fish.. did not count. A litttle over half were caught on bulkheads with dead shrimp. The rest were caught on an underwater dam where water goes from 29 feet to 11 feet (anchored on top...chum.. throw on both sides of dam). Could have done a lot better with my normal fishing buddies but was glad to show some new fisherman a good time.
Note: Fishing with 2/0 hook and NO weights. Shrimp from grocery store,50-60 count.
Tight lines.

They dang sure wasn't bitting today. The north wind had it slow. Had 36 Sat. before I couldn't take the waves anymore

Sorry to hear you had a slow day.
Here are some pics. I caught the minnow through the lip, told others in boat not to give me any excuse for missing a fish!
Not sure how much time you have under your belt but when fishing is slow at this time of the year don't be afraid to try new spots along bulkheads. I like bulkheads on points where there is a little water movement.
Take care.

Thanks, Yesterday was my third time to fish Conroe in 10 years and the second time to catfish since being a kid. I was by myself and do not have to catch fish to have a good time. There were some guys by me that was running Jugs and they were doing good by what I was hearing. It was funning listening to them three. I think there was some beer involved. When the lake laid down I did get to run the lake and see some new stuff.

Did you launch at the Shell station off 1097? I saw you on Sunday. I remember the shirt. I was in the Kenner with the 115merc. We caught about 8 crapie and 3 cats. We didn't do nearly as well as you.

That was us. I'm hard to miss, lol. Had a good time. I pretty much stick to catfishing. Hope things go better next time for you.

Do you guys anchor on the bulk heads or keep moving by trolling down them??

I personally anchor. I believe that some folks will hold in place with a trolling motor. Depending on how things are going I can see using a trolling motor. Over the years I've found that many areas will hold 4 to 8 fish and you can move down 20 yards and repeat, etc, but even during those times I anchor just being careful to get barely in reach and slide them out quietly. After a number of years I have found a couple of places that have produced enough fish that I don't move much. I'm also lazy. Sometimes they come in waves. Catch 5, wait 15 mins and another wave comes. I also chum with milo.
Hope this helps.
If I fish at night, moving becomes less an issue usually because the cats will come into the shallows to feed.

Try multiple spots. I prefer bulkheads south of 1097. Some are better than others. Wish I could help more. I've some of my best luck on bulkheads on points (on a corner) and even better luck when I can see water movement across a corner and fish on the down side of the water movement. Directly against the bulkhead. Best place to cast is where bait hits it and falls in water.
If you survey the water and find that it drops to 15 feet or more within 20 yards, at least for me I find those being better spots. Hope this helps.
The picture of my back reeling in a fish is a place where the point is about 15 to 20 yards to my left. We can cast to the point and all along the bulkhead. Straight behind me I can cast and reach 20 ft of water. The water at the bulkhead is about 3 feet.
When I fish in the day I prefer to stay fairly close to deep water. At night the catfish will go into the shallows and it isn't important to be within 15 to 20 yards of deep water. My rule is 20 to 30 minutes and no more than 2 fish I move. Should not have a problem finding a place to catch at least 7 to fish an hour this time of year.
Fishing at night? Don't hesitate to also try rocky points. I've done well in front of some condos on the east side of the lake north of the Light House a couple hundred yards. Just look for the condos, they have a pier or two and fish just around the corner into the cove. Cast on into the very shallow water at night. This time of year you can actually see their fins out of the water sometimes, kind of like a red feeding.

Hey, I recognize that parking lot and guard rail behind those coolers full of cats. I drive by it every day, twice. I eyehooked a shad myself yesterday. lol. Good report and how much longer do you think they'll be chasing shad up on the bulkheads?

Not really sure Randy when it comes to the morning bite that is very popular these days but if I remember correctly by June or a bit into June it will have slowed from what it is now. April and May from what I understand is spawning time and combine that with all of the shad that are up against the bulkheads in the morning it equates to the hot and heavy action right now.
Fishing at night on the bulkheads will continue to be productive all summer.

Thanks Ron, I called my retired fishing buddy and we'll be out there Sat. If you see a forest green 17 footer with a black stripe and an Evinrude painted to match the boat, pull up and join in, that's me. We'll probably be staying south of the 1097 bridge.

Family obligations, a wedding to attend. My daughter is in the wedding. You think they would be ok with me fishing instead? I could have it filmed!
jk
Good luck!

LMAO Ronborsk, sounds like something I would say (or at least think, I know better than to say it, ha-ha-ha.). Wow, best of wishes to you and your family, daughter, and new son-in-law. I wish them many years of happiness and health. Is that new son-in-law of yours a fisherman? Might be worthwhile to make him one (keep your eye on him, if you know what I mean). Just joking, I'm sure he is a fine man. Good luck. We'll do just fine out on the lake without you. I'm sure we won't catch them all, lol.

It is my niece's wedding. Daughter is in it. That may just make it ok to go fishing, lol.
