Well, I was generally out fishing all last week. Hey SS, I tried the corks on the rock bulkhead....and I guess it was fun....but every time I have 4 cats when the morning run was over. Something about me and 4 cat's this year. I tried everything....fishing on bottom ...fishing under cork...fishing on jugs. The corks where fun to watch..but I have a feeling alot of the bobbing was due to small white bass.
Sunday, I had been out in the wind storm. I have been hitting some white bass holes near penwaugh, but I haven't been having much luck. A couple here and there...just enough to keep one excited. Then Monday, after the morning shad run, I was headed in and stopped by a point I haven't tried in awhile(yea, I had my 4 catfish) I anchor off on the point and start to cast..and it was on in my world. I was pulling in white bass as fast as I could go. I was on a 6 ft point thats drops off, so the white are shallow right now...8 to 10 ft. I use my LIME GREEN SLAB, and jig. I limited out probably in 45 minutes or less. Me being alone I had to head in.
Cute story here. As I was jigging here comes this boat...monday livingston...2 boats on the whole lake...me and them. Them being a cute older couple(retired). Now the old man has the old lady driving the boat. He's just sitting over there smiling away as she drives. So they see me pulling in these fish and here they come. So the old lady ask "do you mind if we troll by you". "Naw, I don't care" I replied. Years of experience has taught me trolling over white bass doesn't scare them off. They are either there or not. So here they come....i admit the old lady was a drivin fool she'd come feet off my boat and smiled away as they dragged in their lines with fish. Maybe I should have told them about running a speck rig behind the hellbender and get 2 for 1. They where cute. Wish I had the camera then, I would have snapped a shot.
Generally, I did a repeat Tuesday morning. Yes it was raining Tuesday morning. Yes I was the only boat in the rain fishing. But for a good cause. Same story as above this time the white bass where schooling. they had that point covered. I could throw my jig anywhere and catch a fish. Some stripers in the mix too...to small to keep. Got my 25 in about 20 minutes and off I go. Soaking wet and happy with my 4 catfish.
