Yes, I really like them raw...just peal, slice, and eat. I plant a lot of them every fall mostly as a cover crop to till back into the soil in spring, but eat my share in the process.

I love, love, love turnips. My grandfather used to grow them in his garden and I would pull them up, knock the dirt off and eat them. You can't hardly even find turnips anymore in the produce section of the grocery store.

I wish I had a garden.

I usually plant purple tops in early fall. Cut them up, put them in a pot of mustards. Bake a big pan of sweet cornbread, get some ice tea, and get on the couch....

Love me some turnips. They're a cool weather crop so save them for fall planting if you're looking to harvest the roots. They get extra sweet after a good cold spell or light freeze. If you're just looking for the greens you can grow them any time.

I like to add some turnip & beet greens and arugala to mashed potatoes. I throw the greens into the potato water after I take the taters out for about a minute or two, drain and rough chop them then add to the potatoes along with some olive oil & a little cheese. Salt, pepper & a little garlic powder to taste and have at'em!!

I like them in stews instead of potatos man the rich flavor. I plant in Sept and Oct when I start onions.

We're picking them now, young and tender. Peel ,cube, put into aluminium foil, throw'm in the oven, remove, salt and pepper to taste. Great !
