If you catch a redfish on a jug in freshwater, north of the 521 boundary is it legal to keep them?

I dont think you can because a red is a game fish, just carry a fishing pole with you a say you caught it on that

I hate to say it but if you are correct then people like you make me sick. Fishing is a privilege, not a right.

But does that make it right....???

And if that is the case and it is illegal to take reds with that method of fishing, then shouldn't you call a warden or Game Thief?

Just cut it up and use it for bait. Should make some good yellow cat bait.

But what if you did catch it on a rod and reel? I wonder if the warden would hassle you?

Kind of a slippery slope on that one. I know some guys who were trotlining Lake Austin near Chinquapin around 20 years ago and they caught limits of leagal reds on trotlines and they had fishing poles in the boat with them.
when they arrived at the ramp there were Game wardens waiting on them and asked how the reds were caught? They lied and told them they had used the rodsand reels. Thats when the GW's claimed they had been tipped off and had been watching them all weekend thru binoculars.
As I remember I think the fine was 300.00 per fish and that was over 20 yrs ago.
I have caught many legal reds on jugs in the Colorado and they have always been released.

Slime-Time, way to stand up dude. Whether you do it from a personnel decision to follow game laws, or, just the realization that a warden on Pine Island can read the brand of cigarettes you smoke when you are fishing at the Lump. And radio his partner to go and get you if he has counted 4 beers that you drank.
It is not worth justifying and rationalizing your way over some ambiguous game law, if you are having to do that then odds are 100 to 1 that the game warden may not follow your way of thinking, or explaining, just how that game fish got in your boat.

I have a uncle of mine in San Antonio and there is a lake or two up in that area that has redfish and he says there is no size limit on reds caught in freshwater, so with that part of the river being considered freshwater do the same rules apply there with reds as they do in saltwater and if they dont whats the point of having fresh/salt bounry lines, just curious

I tried that but all I caught was speckled trout!!! But seriously, we throw them back because we did not know the rule and we see the wardens at the boat ramp.

I think the guy was asking if it was legal to catch reds on jugs lines. each and every person has a way of enjoying the sport of fishing who said you can only enjoy and preach conservation from a 30,000 dollar boat and a 300 dollar fishing rod with a piece of plastic at the end of it.

TPWD says no to redfish on jugs. Man i wish i had a $30,000 boat and at least a $100 rod, I would be in high cotton indeed.

I was just kidding when I said that. I wouldn't advise doing nothing more than unhooking the fish and letting it go. Unless, like someone said, that they were feeding a family out in their neck of the woods, Then, I would eat it and make a brown trout out of it.

Check your reg. ALL goo fishermen know the rules and follow them....as the fishing future belongs to our grandkids and so forth. IT IS ILLEGAL TO CATCH REDS on trotlines period. I agree with troutmaster on this one, fishing is a privilege that has to be earned. The rules state rod/reels online-not unless they are above/below a certain boundary.

I bet you are a goo fisherman. I know the regs about the boundaries, where I can fish with jugs and trotlines. Sometimes it is easier to ask a question here on 2cool than it is to look it up.
