It has been rainy and in the 40's here in San Antonio the last few days. Today it is in the 80's and sunny so I went out to put the spikes in my planters and noticed the leaves on all my tomato plants have turned color. Any idea what it is and how to correct it? I was hopefull for a good turnout as the buds were some of the largest I have seen.

Thanks for any help..

That is exactly what I have been doing. The plants have all stood back up and are looking pretty strong however the brown leaves look like they are getting worse and will fall off. There is a lot of new growth though.

Tim, I think i have found what you have. It is called downy mildew and is promoted by excessive irrigation often spreading from crop residue and nearby weeds. I am going to give you what info i have on it but know nothing of it really.

1. It can be treated with copper: "bordeaux mixture" warning corrosive and toxic spray mixture.

2. biological treatment: "bacillus pumilus" safe to use

3. synthetic: "chlorothalonil" very toxic to fish. dont use with or soon after oil.

Not sure how to get my hands on any of these except maybe a websearch and no I do not understand what do not you with oil or soon after so beats me. If I were to try and find and of these it would be number two only. I sugest for anybody with a garden or interested in different info on gardening to get "miracle grow complete guid to vegetables and fruits&herbs " was a big help to me for info I was looking for and came across some pictures of what you described and showed us and just thought this could be it.

Thanks very much for the replies...

Update: The problem looking leaves have not changed at all although they seem to be drying up a little. Since my original post all my plants have grown a good foot taller and all the new growth is dark green, shiney, standing up proud and looking great.

I have been feeding the plants fish emulsion water (vacummed gravel from my fish tank). Wether this is a good idea or not has yet to be determined. The problem I am having started when here in San Antonio we had three days when it got cold and rained. Everything was perfect before that and everything seems to be doing great since then. You can literally see the 'problem' on each plant and I will take some more pics and post them. I am in a holding pattern right now to see what happens over the next few days. I'll keep eveyone posted and thanks again for the info. The new pics will explain things better.

Thanks again!

Yes the links helped but I don't think that is the problem. I will post more pics tomorrow. Thanks again everybody. Normally I wouldn't be so concerned but the blooms were the size of a dime and I was really impressed and hopefull. We shall see!

Hope that everything works out for you! Raising plants with the nuturing, watering and feeding is tough enough without having to deal with the other things like pest, fungal infections and the like!

Good Luck and Happy Gardening!
