Here's one from last summer. Hope it comes through. I don't know how you shrink the file size to make them go through.

I have a few more but the file sizes are over 400MB and I'm not sure how to compress them. Anyway we had a hard time finding any good snapper last year. Speared plenty A.J. and a couple Grouper. Getting the itch to blow some bubbles and stick something. The water is warming up!
Can't wait to get'er done!

went out of Aransas. can't remember how far but i think about 35 miles. shot a bunch of nice fish that day ending up with about 500 lbs of fish b/t 5 guys. my buddy and I were in the A&M scub club but he has since grad.
well his deal was he wanted a BIG grouper. he shot one the trip before but origanally we thought it was bigger under water . . . turned out it was only about 40 or 45 lbs.
it was our last dive. we were in about 180' of water on a bunch of snapper, what i like to shoot. see we have this system. i stay about 10 to 15' below him, take my good snapper and usually that attracts some of the other bigger fish in . . . they are curious. well, there wasn't any around so he took a snapper. i wasn't neutral bouyant so with the current carrying me off past the rig leg i was slowly dropping as i was reloading my gun. there was a not as clear bottom zone and i was getting in it. got reloaded and looked b/t my legs. all i saw was a mouth the size of . . well you can see how big it was. i swim up to my buddy, pull on his fin, let him get reloaded and motion to him of the size and type of fish. grab him by his tank and take him down. we met the fish as he was coming out of the murky zone about face to face . . . he turned sideways and was about to take off quickly and lee shot him . . . not the best shot, a little in the meat. he pulled us around a bit, me holding on to lee and he holding on to the fish. finally passed by a leg and we went on the other side of it and used it to hold the fish and wear him out. after he calmed down i got a backup shot on him and it was all over . . . gutted him out on the water and weighed him inshore at a little over 100 lbs.

That first fish looks to me like a state record almaco, you sure it was an aj?

skilz,
Pretty sure it was a big AJ but it may have been an Almaco. All's I know is that it ate darn good! The tail of the fish you can see in the left of the picture was a big black jack not the best eating but was my buddies first fish with a spear. The rig was in real deep water 700+ and had swarms of AJ's and various other jacks.

how do you tell an AJ from an Almaco? I thought it was by different shaped foreheads (like male and female mahi) - but I also thought that Almaco did not get as large as AJ

Marsh Monkeys? I'm pretty sure I have seen those foraging in their natural habitat! LOL!

Pat P,
I think what you may have seen were actually Beach Monkeys. The Marsh Monkey comes from a different liniage ( woodpile) and is not afraid of water.
