I am considering buying a house on the main lake side of the "356" bridge over White Rock Creek near the Freedom Shores Marina in order to be nearer to aging parents. Looking at the chart, it looks like deep water everywhere but looking across the lake it looks like sandbars everywhere. I see that the area across the river channel is what they call "the jungle". I have heard of this area but have never been anywhere on this lake. I always pictured the "jungle" as being standing timber but I don't see that. What exactly is it? My main question is, is this an OK area of the lake to get around in or will I be sorry that I bought here? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. My name is "Bill" and my # is 361-549-3135

Thanks, Bil

That area of the lake has some great fishing. Just klike any body of water, you need to learn the trouble spots. When the lake was first made, the jungle was just that, a jungle. Lots of timber everywhere. Now it is more of an area that has a little bit of standing timber. It's a very good area for white bass and catfish. Hope this Helps. If i could have a house up there, I would.

Grew up fishing that area. Parents had a place at the old " Coby's marina " . Good catfishing where White Rock Creek meets the river and the jungle area. Good crappie fishing up White Rock in the spring and at the chalk bluffs in the summer. I sure miss that place. Great memories an great location.

You are in a great spot for fishing, the trick up there is to learn the channels to keep safe. It is very tricky because all of that standing timber is now timber that was rotted off at the water line. So much of the boat crunching stuff is just below the surface in shallow spots. Even running close to the channels but not in them can be dangerous as the biggest of trees grew along the bank of the old channels, so they stick up tall enough to make for bad.
The good news is that the Trinity River channel is marked with regulation buoys, if you stay between the red and green you are good to travel. I am not sure about the White Rock channel but that area North of the 356 brudge is pretty safe to run until you reach the moth of White Rock. That is where you need to learn the channel well to stay safe.
However, the fishing in that general area where White Rock meets the Trinity is great fishing most of the time.
