Old man lost his job today and i'm worried sick! My mom is in contract work with BP and with no benefits so they had their insurance with his company. Old man has Diabetis so medicine isn't cheap. I know hes not the only one out sweating about a job but i just needed to vent to someone. He was a district Manager of a magazine distributor who decided to cut their regional person to my dads position cause they live in the same city. Can't blame him just a number crunch! So if anyone has any leads on a management position in some capacity i would be greatful.
thanks

Put some basics about his experience up on this new 2cool jobs board. No names or specifics, just some thing that may get you a lead for him.

Old man??? Are you speaking of your father? If so, try looking at things a little differently.

Sorry to hear about your fathers job. If he lost his insurance he should be able to get COBRA health coverage for awhile. It's expensive but better than going without if you can afford it. He might be able to get it for as long as 18 months in some cases.

Oh, I forgot -- here's a couple of job sites I search.

monster.com
careerbuilder.com
indeed.com
craigslist.com (houston)

Also, you can search the NASA contractors:
http://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/about/people/contractorlist.html

I think I'll start a post for job search sites. Maybe I'll learn of some new ones.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Is he a vet? If so, maybe he can talk to the VA to see about getting his important mediciations. Last thing he needs is complications with the diabetes...

Also, he needs to speak with his Dr's. They might offer him a 'cash' special price. Mine did when I was offshored. Told me they would work with me.

Good luck to your Dad and family. Been there done that.

Sorry to hear about your Pop losing his job. He will be eligible for 65% of the cost of health insurance under COBRA or State continuation, depending on the size of his former employer. There are details here on my blog http://thegroupguy.blogspot.com/2009/03/helpful-links-for-spendulus-package.html

Cobra is a joke. My wife got laid off a few weeks ago, the cobra packet came in last week. $1750.00 a month to keep it. Even with obama paying part of it, it was still $200-300 a month more than what the total policy (her part and companies part) cost to start with.
