I must admit, VA Fogg is not a regular stop but I certainly do not recall any buoys the last time I was therer.

I have heard that there are many lost anchors at the Fogg. I think I will be trying to do a little recovery dives there this summer. But now there aren't any morring bouys at the Fogg.

problem with the Fogg is that it is in too close and the visiblity goes to zero very quickly. Also - lots of boats out there fishing so if you want to dive it, you have to get there early.
A friend of mine shot an 80-90# grouper off the Fogg about 5 years ago.

Pretty much what speckle-catcher said - We dove the Liberty Ships out of Port A a few years back and the vis was good all the way down till about the bottom 20-30 feet, which was the depth of the deck of the ship. At that point the vis was about 20'. We followed the anchor line down, then stayed fairly close so we could follow the line back up to avoid the swim on the surface back to our boat. There were other boats fishing this area, some of them were drifting and bottom fishing, which in my opinion is a bad situation when you are diving. I prefer diving the rigs fwiw.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you fly a dive flag boats are required to stay at least 500 ft away from your dive boat. I dive and fish and while I dont like getting to my destination to find a dive flag up ...I do respect the divers safety and stay away.

That is the rule but you still have to be there before other boats get to the site. Plus I have seen alot of fishing boat get alot closer than 500 ft with dive flags.

actually I think it's 250'
but like MB said, you should be there (and flying the flag) before any other boat gets in the same area.

I dove the fogg and the liberty last summer owt of my boat and the vis was 100 ft +
I guess we were just lucky that day. There are NO buoys there and it can be a crowded spot. by the way for those that dont dive, it was fishless for the most part!!
Gonna do the Gardens and Stetson asap too

the gardens adn stetson are awesome! you won't regret that trip. Take a 3 day trip on the Fling or Spree.
If you can afford the time, take the 5 day trip during the coral spawning in August. Fantastic!
