Well, I went down the street last night and five finger lifted two thrown out Christmas trees last night. I thought I might put a center block on the base and sink them in Livingston. Maybe that way I can cultevate a future fishing spot and find it with my GPS. Has anyone else done this before?

it dont take too many xmas trees to fill up the deck of a boat REAL quick! I did it on a nearby local lake, but I put them in my favorite fishing hole to make it even better.....I dont trust my OLD 1st generation GPS to find it again if I make my own "reef"......

Yea, I'm going to try and put about four on the bow of my pontoon boat. I sure hope this works. It would be great if thetrees held some kitties and crappie/bull perch.

It should definatly hold some crappie in the right part of the lake.

I have never done it on Livingston, but I've been sinking them on Conroe for years. I've used as few as 3 and as many as 15 on different spots. I have had the best results making the piles on points or in creek channels in 12 - 20 foot of water. I also sink a few in shallower water for springtime crappie.
I use cinderblocks to sink them with. That also adds to the "structure"

I thought I would use some wire to attach them to cender blocks

put a jug on top with some water so they stand up right instead on lay on the bottom

Thats a great idea. If you see a truck driving around the North end of Livingston with a bunch of X-Mas trees in the back its prob me poaching them.....

We did it years ago in central texas, sunk almost 100 trees.

Used half cinder blocks for two trees, attached them with chain and rope (both will eventually break down and erode - but the trees should have enough mud to hold them down by the time that happens).

The only thing you need to be aware of is that putting trees in a lake is ILLEGAL. We found out the hard way when the LCRA stopped us and gave us a ticket. It was later dismissed after we made a donation, but I looked up the law (at the time) and sure enough, we were in the wrong. What a game warden did say was LEGAL: take rocks as anchors and attach them to brush that you can find on the shore of the lake.
