Today started off better than yesterday. 2nd throw with the net and had 10 nice shad and 2 big buffalo 1 about 3 lbs and the other 5 lbs.( at first I thought oh crud, here we go again with a bunch of fingerling kitties like yesterday.) My son Zachary was with me today and boy did we have a father and son morning. His arms was wore out with us catching almost 40 cats and a couple of reds.He is really liking fishing but was a little disappointed that we were not throwing arties...he got over it when we had multiple hookups.Couldn't ask for a better Christmas gift than this.My vacation is over and I hope everyone has a safe and blessed Christmas.here are a few pics.

The red was probably close to 25 inches, notice some of those cats are bigger. the 2nd red was 21 inches.

That is some of the best winter fishing there is.I logged a many hours out there from the time I was about seven years old till the mid 80's.Long Island,Cross Bayous and the cut off the Old and Lost. If you can get fresh duck hearts they will out catch shad and Mullet. Thanks for the posts it brings back fond memories. My dad ,his friend and I would sometimes build a fire and cook fresh catfish on the bank of Long Island Bayou. That would warm you up on a cold day.

There is nothing like a morning duck hunt and using the duck guts for cats. I grew up doing the same thing same area.We might know one another or crossed paths a time or two.Nutra guts work just as well, however since the saltwater barrier was built and probably over hunting there are no nutras to speak of.

I never duck hunted but we would get the guts from The old Delhoume place when the hunters came in. When I was a kid we would get them from the trash cans and the Nutra guts where the trappers threw them out.I grew up in Pasadena and we had an old man that lived a couple house from us that would fish down there almost every Day and when my dad couldn't go I would go with him. even at 5, take plenty of snack foods, toys, waterguns, and always have a small dip net with bait that he can play with. Most important a life jacket that has a handle or loop at the top so you can grab it if something happens.
