Allright guys, need some advice. I have a great smoker/pit combo witch I use for the ribs and other slow cooking methods. But lets face it, sometimes I work late and want to cook some fajitas or chicken breast without going to the trouble of building the fire. Whats the skinny on gas pits and which brands to stay away from. Went to Lowes the other day and they had a pit advertising infared cooking, which looked like stainless tray's with a lot of holes to distribute the fire evenly. All the pits were in the 450.00 to 800.00 range. What do I look for? Do not intend to spend 3,500.00 for one of those Viking grills. Thanks for you input.

the best advice i can give you is buy one with cast iron burners.!!!!i've had serveral gas grills but this last one has gone the longest and its all because of cast burners. the one i have now came from the scratch and dent corner in sams. its stainles and has one side burner for frying. i can't say its the best one to buy, i only got it because of the price, but the burners have lasted longer than the 3 other grills i've had put together.

I use my gas grill at least three times a week. My best advice is to not go cheap if you plan on using it alot and want it to last. I've had two Char-Broil's and they're OK, but for the money, you can't beat a Weber. I bought the Genesis model five years ago and have not had to replace the burners, grates or ignitor. With the Char Broil's, I would probably be on the third set of these. If you keep it out in the weather, get a good cover to make it last.

Thanks for the info, They really push the Char Broil at Lowe's and I would have probably ended up with that brand not knowing any better. Is the Genesis a Weber model? Again thanks for your replies.

The Weber Genesis costs about 700 bucks and is a durable grill that is a pleasure to use!! Catfish 48

I have 2 Webers that I didn't pay anywhere close to $700 for and I have no complaints. Think its the 300 or 3000 model. One sits out a the ranch for atleast the last 1.5yrs and still works fine.

I was in the same boat and my wife and I looked at a variety of grills. Hated to pull the trigger on a real expensive one but felt that was the way to go. Home Depot had a Char-Broil that had 5 burners, infrared burner, rotisserie and side burner for $369. Tempting but still wanted to go better so we kept looking. About a week ago they ran them on sale for $199. Figured I could get a couple or three years out of it so I jumped on it. So far I love it and when it dies I won't feel bad about junking it. Not sure if they are still on sale or not but I haven't regretted my decision yet - it cooks great and is a lot faster and easier than firing up the Klose.

Weber is the way to go on a reliable gas grill. I have had a Spirit two burner for longer than 15 years. Eventually, you will have to replace the "flavorizer bars" and perhaps, the grate. I have replaced the grate with stainless and the flavorizer bars with stainless. Parts are readily accessible should you need them.

home depot has one for 199 that the reviews that were written on it said that consumer reports said it was the top rated " cheaper" gas grill, I went and bought one-first gas grill ever- but havent used it yet. FIL bought one also and said it worked great.
