Mission River

Anyone fish the Mission River near Copano Bay? I have been told you can catch fresh and salt water species near the bay. I would love to target some fresh water kitties and catch salt water fish too. I have never fished the river, but I saw where TPWD has a landing off Hwy 136.

One of my favorite places to fish. When you put in at the public ramp, head downriver (right) and go about a mile or so until you get to where the small creek dumps in on the left side. It's the only creek that dumps in before you hit the bay. I've caught blue cats, trout, drum, blue crabs and reds there all in the same day. I'm in California now (winter Texan) but I have a house in Aransas Pass and I spend alot of time on that river when I'm in town. Don't know the names of the roads yet, but after you pass the famous sandwich shop past Bayside, keep going a few more miles. Then it's a left at a cotton field (that's probably hwy 136). Then up that road 1/2 mile to a small gravel road on the right that leads to the launch ramp, which is about another 1/2 mile. Its a nice, concrete launch ramp. Fresh and salt fishing. Blue cats to blue crabs. Watch out for the gators. Lots of them along the shoreline. I've seen them 10' long in there in the spring.

That's the info I was looking for. We were in AP for almost a year, moved to Rockport for a few months, then back here. Occasionally we cross the Mission River between Bayside and Refugio. I've wanted to fish it ever since the first time we crossed it.
