hi guys,
i'm sure most of you probably know about this cool flight sim, and other sims but it can't hurt to tell you guys about it again.....
i don't post much in here, as i don't do any RC flying (1. can't afford it, 2. wife would kill me, 3. i would die if i crashed something worth that much), though i have a lot of respect for you guys... not only the skills to pilot small aircraft, but the craft to build them as well...
however, i do love aircraft, particularly of the WW2 vintage... i have studied that era of aircraft since i was a kid.... i guess lucky to have known and met more than a few WW2 pilots growing up in pensacola, and the incredible diversity and variety of the aircraft built between 1936 and 1945 always appealed to me.
one thing that i love is flying the WarBirds sim on my computer.... it's a fun way to kill some time...
if you have never checked out WarBirds, you really owe it to yourself to give it a try....
www.totalsims.com
it only cost 13.95 to fly online against other pilots... you can join squadrons, they have special events, etc... these guys work really hard to model the aircraft realistically, and it shows... there is a two week trial period that doesn't cost you a thing, though you do have to submit a credit card number to download the free software, if you don't like it, then you cancel, but get to keep the software, just lose your online privileges.... they are very laid back, no high pressure stuff at all...
i have been flying in WB for a few years, and have to say, it is a lot of fun. you really, really have to know your tactics, and study up on aircraft, etc. etc. etc. to even have a chance online, as the other pilots are pretty darn good....
anyway... if you've always wanted to fly an old war plane, but like me, know you never will... it is a pretty neat substitute, the aircraft really have the characteristics of the actual machines....and when you start getting good, and blasting some folks out of the sky, it can be down right addicting...
you can also man tanks, ground artillery, take fields from the enemy, fly from cvs (carriers)... there are many different terrains....
you need a fairly new computer to run the software, and you'll need a joystick... but they have really done a good job to make it work on lots of machines... i can run it on my older mac G4, but my G5 works much better... i know the kids absolutely LOVE it...
anyway... if you guys ever decide to get online and play... watchout for 'hewesy' (that's my handle)... in my nakajima ki84, ki43, A6M3, p38j, or bf109g2-eto..... on your 6!!!!!!
i'll try to post a few screenshots of the action, if you like...
:)
