I'll be there camping this weekend as well, but like you I'm looking for advice as well. :)
Wheldon, I know you're out there somewhere, give us a hint. We need to feed our family. Haha!
I always take the deep fryer camping with us and I would hate to do all that lifting for nothing.

I will be on somerville tomorrow scouting out the fishing. I have a trip on Thursday there. Crappie are biting with larger ones deeper, cats are similar to crappie this tiem of year. You can catch some in the trees and shallows, especially at night. bigger cats during the day will be deeper and close to structure, and chum will help you bring them together.
I have been mostly on Fayette county lately. Today we had 50 fish there, and half of them were over 20 inches. Nice fat fish, and that ais unusual for this time of year with the water so hot.

Lake is still 1.5 feet low. Fishing was slow. What we caught were under sized. Fished only for crappie this morning, over brush piles. I would look for the kitties to be around the rocks or near the cane growing in the water whre the wind his blowing into the bank.
My customers tomorrow said they wanted to catch some fish even if they were throw backs, and they wanted to fish Somerville, even after I suggested another lake. I had a family camping at Somerville last week that wanted fish to eat, so they made the 45 minute drive to Fayette county Lake and fished there with me. They took home 30 2-4# catfish, had plenty to eat and some to share.

Went to Gibbons last Sunday, fishing was slow for us??? My depth finder was giving me trouble, the straw that broke the camel's back, ordered a Lowrance LCX 28-C HD with a dual frequency skimmer/transducer.

4 keeper crappie and 15 throw backs today, plus 13 keeper cats and about 10 throw backs...crappie 17 foot deep, cats 2 foot and 10 foot deep, around the rock island.
Be careful near overlook boat ramp, I found water shallow enough to drag the bottom of the boat, and the motor, 150 yards off shore (near spillway) and no bout out there marking it, with lake 1.5 foot low, bet someone gets hurt there this holiday weekend.
