I will be trying for some Trinity blue crabs tomorrow and stray catfish at the 59 bridge. last year starting about now I could catch up to 6 dozen blue crabs there with chicken legs tied to a fishing rod. Net them with a long handle crab net. 2 at at time! It kept up right through November last year, has anyone been crabing in the lower Trinity lately?

Are you crabbing around the boat launch at 59? Would have never thought the blue crabs would have come that far up river. Are there any size to them? I have been trying to put my grand children on some crabs and found just a few. Had to go all the way to Sabine and I live in Conroe. Sure would be a shorter trip.

I had 4 right up to the bank when they let go today. later there will be more crabs and they will hang on better because of competition. I crab right at the 59 bridge boat ramp and usually catch plenty, today was a recon misson, tomorrow i'm going with the seceret weapon, panty hose to add to the bait. When they get their claws hung in them they can't let go. They are very good size and filled out nice with meat and have a better flavor than saltwater crabs, much sweeter. A comerical fisherman told me that they are actually freshwater crabs and that they live in water that is close to salt but not quite.

Be sure to post some pics of your trip. That is a great idea with the panty hose.
Good luck and catch a bunch

Talk about a great bait...take off the pinchers, crush them slightly, put on a hook, and hold on.

I made an aborted trip, as soon as I got there I got an emergency call from family and had to bail. However I plan on going saturday to avoid the crowd on the lake and promise a report and pics.

hum now that sounds fun.......might have to try and catch you there.....what time do ya go?....I am kinda with you....i am not really into the holiday weekend lake crowd....but then again....what do you think the white bass will be doing?.....I was out fri. and sat. having a blast in the middle of the lake....but something happen sunday when the wind changed out of the north....dead isnt the word. the water might be getting cooler now the ground changes temp...plus the lake looks like it got alot of water from dallas way and maybe its to fresh.....I am just wondering if after several days of warm weather if the whites will turn back on? I think they will.

Okay, it has been crabs 3 to 1 but I'm on a comeback now. After several failed attemps i got 4 BIG crabs in my 10' john boat before the rain yesterday.
