Caught 3 yellows over the weekend and several monster gar, kept 1 yellow at 7.2# for dinner also caught a huge leather back turtle that weighed about 30#. It was as big as a garbage can lid.

leatherback? you mean softshell? leatherbacks are sea turtles...

Yes you are correct Seattleman1969 it was a REPTILIA TESTUDINES TRIONYCHIDAE APALONE SPINIFERA AKA TEXAS SPINY SOFTSHELL TURTLE but somtimes I call them leather backs.
