Just talked to my little brother. He set out some jug lines over night and checked them early this morning. He had 6 catfish and 1 gar. All the fish were dead except one catfish. We are not expert jugliners but have done it a few times not and have not had one die on us yet. Some other people he talked to said it was because of the low water and oxygen levels. Is this true? If it rains will the oxygen level go back up??

Rain and runoff will definitely help, were your lines past the drop or on the bar. rs

If you are to far above or below the thermacline the fish will probably die.In rivers with some current it isnt much of a issue cause the water is turning and mixing. You should be able to see the thermacline on a good graph.

I went this morning on the South end with two friends and found some big whites and a couple of cats on jugs. As I watched the finder(set to manual sensitivity and at 85% & set on pixels not fish symbols) I saw a distinct thermocline at about 15 to 17' in water deeper than 20'. Livingston doesn't always develope one in the summer as it is a relativly shallow lake, but this year hot temps and drought conditions brought one on. BEC it makes sense those whites are shallow and I'm going to try them with some rattle traps & little georges trolled close to the bank at the island. I have had years were that was the trick when it got hot and the lake statified.

In TN we have problems releasing fish in the lakes because of the oxygen levels.Do you guys have the same problems?Stripers are bad about floating back up after you release one.We catch a limit and try for somthing else.Below dams it isnt a issue and when its hot thats where I spend most of my time.

Yeah clean air a caught striper in the lake of any size rarley makes it after the fight. If I happen to be a good school and catch a limit I stop and go for something else, like you said below our dam it's not as big a problem but still happens on hot days and low water.
