The jugs I had left out overnight were still in place but no bait and no fish. So I baited up with cut gizzard shad (caught 12 in the cast net w/one throw) and got 9 anchored ones and 5 floaters out with good bait.
Action was quick on the floaters and they out fished the sinkers 2 to 1 over the morning and caught all of the bigger fish. Lines about 3' to 18" long.
The anchored ones would catch at times when the action slowed on the floaters so it was fun but lots of work by myself.
Ended the day about 12:00 and had 17 nice blues most about 2 lbs but several over 4lbs.

Guess I'm going to have to try these out. What water depth were you fishing?
If you ever need a partner (who doesn't know squat about catfishing) let me know. I'm on the lake fairly often now. Thanks for the report.

Shadslinger- How do you rig up a "floater"? I asume it is just like a regular jug line with a float, braided line, and a coule hooks with jsut a samll maybe 1 oz weight???????

dbullard i'm kicking pretty high for an old man, but it kicked my butt today. I'm still dog tired. Good luck tomorrow night.
H,L,& S. I just tie about 3' to 18" on a 2 liter jug and one hook, bait with a chunk of cut gizzard shad or a whole threadfin shad and watch her float. No sinker needed, it will catch catfish in 35' of water out in the open lake this time of year.
I was fishing in mostly 16' w/anchored jugs and from 16' to 4' on the floaters, and they caught fish in all depth ranges.
MDlark we will have to go sometime, I'll post up when I go next. If you can make it PM me and will try it.

You got that right, and its the best way to harvest a bunch of nice blue cats, fun to. Trotlines wear me out, plus I really like to catch them floating, that's the most fun. I had 20 when I cleaned them and most were 4 to 6 lb a few smaller. I got 2 gallons of boneless fillets to make up today for frying.

Ya'll gonna free float them jugs in the morning Shadslinger?? If so, where are you putting in and what time?? I have about twenty free floaters and twenty anchored types. I wouldn't mind pulling my boat down there and double teaming those fish. Of course there ain't no guarantee with me, but I'm liable to just show up, that is if you are up to having any company around. I'm sure i could talk my daughter in to riding in my boat,
