Hello everyone. I have spent quite a bit of time lately talking to as many local Kayak anglers as possible. Trying to design the perfect Kayak rod. I know quite a few LARGE companies make them, but I can't tell alot of differences between their "Kayak" rods and their regular rods.

So I have commited to design and build one and donate it to a local Kayak tournament as a door prize to try and get some exposure. Just wondering if you guy's had any input as far as components go.

Right now from I can gather.... A 7' med action with Fast taper. A shorter than average handle to accomodate shallower than usual rod holders and lack of space.

Never built a yak rod yet but like most "specialty rods" one would want to build it after a good consultation with the end user. Presentation & species targeted are to be concidered. You might want to just show an example of your work with the prize winner
getting the rod built to his requests.

That being said, take a gander at the photo of a yak rod built by another "westcoaster" http://www.rodbuilding.org/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/7188/cat/500/page/1

he uses things like "leash rings" & longer forgrips for extra flotation.

Good Luck

Don't you still owe me a rod? Might want to take care of your home boy first!
