Hey folks... I grew up in east Texas fishing the trinity and surrounding areas near Dayton/Liberty but now I live in austin and I am having a bear of a time figuring out lake travis and the surrounding areas and water bodies.

Been out about 10-12 times this spring/summer and have yet to catch any fish. Bank fishing, all times of the day, bait ranging from fresh live/dead shad, cut shad, garlic cured chicken livers, live/cut perch, crawfish, punch bait, gulp catfish nuggets, etc... but still no fish. I have been hitting Granger, travis, and Georgetown lakes as well as the Colorado River.

HELP!!!!!!! Any tips/tricks, hotspots, or local knowledge would be GREATLY appreciated!

I appreicate that Kim E.
Brandon- several of my clients have fished Travis and claim that any marina is good fish towards the mouth and fishing the docks at night. Volente area of the lake is what I was told.
Dunno what that's worth but that's what I know about travis.
Might try expierementing with some jugs in one area and r/r fishing another at various depths to locate the fish.

sorry...i just saw the bank fishing part...still try some of the marinas that allow fishing...where's there's bait there's kitties.

Thanks for the reply, I kinda figured it was the heat... etc. Any suggestions for marinas? I am really not familiar at all with Lake travis.

I am considering an attempt at jug/trotline fishing Granger this weekend. We'll see how it goes...

but, bank fishing severly limits your opportunities on most lakes. If I were serious, even with limited funds you could rig up with a used small flat bottom boat and 5 hp or so outboard and open up a whole new "sea" of opportunities in fishing for easily under $1000. Maybe $500. Just pay attention to the weather and wear PFD.

Watermelon Flukes, Red Shad Power Worms....right now fish drop offs and ledges along the shoreline in about 10-15' and/or docks and grass early or late. Travis is full of small fish, a result of a huge Guadalupe Bass population. Don't overlook Lake Austin either, I just got a new Kayak and enjoy it in the late afternoons. I have a good friend with the Austin PD who caught 5 bass over 10# in 1 year out of Lake Austin.....Austin is where the big girls live but you have to contend with Biff and Barbie in daddy's $80k ski boat and a head full of booze.....go early or late. Town Lake or Lady Bird Lake as it is now called is another awesome fishery and you can bank fish all over it...just don't eat the fish! We used to dig up worms and ride our bikes down there and fish when we were kids....my grandfather had some great stories about fishing these places starting in the 1920's when he was young. Town lake actually has Pike in it and Carp that are scary big...I hate Carp but they are gaining a little respect, last year they held a $100k Carp tourney here with lots of guys coming over from Europe....$100k would buy a nice little boat!!lol
You should look into a Kayak, it is the perfect way to fish around town, I will be glad to help with spots just send me a pm.

Runnin jugs on travis this past weekend using live perch and caught several blues over 10lb and one that was just shy of 20. Drop offs and rock ledges. That is all I can disclose at this time. Stay tuned for next weekends report.

Grew up fishing out of a jonboat with a merc 20hp on the Trinity. Made for some interesting times, especially when the river was up and running... lots of good stories to tell!

I intend to get a kayak soon, prolly an OK Prowler Big Game fully rigged. Sold my Prowler 15 Angler before I left Washington State to come back home to Texas and now I seriously regret it.
