dont know if this has been discussed. planning to go central tx. and river fish for yellow cats with 3 to 4 in. live perch on rod & reel. I have always used j hooks but have been using circles for reds & sharks and have plenty success but have never used them for cats. I have sizes 12 & 14 .

thanks in advance

have used the light wire eagle claw L197 with sucess on throw lines

the true offshore tuna circles are pretty heavy and will prob kill your bait....

Where are you planning on fishing? I've used 7/0 circle hooks for Yellow Cats on a local lake and had no problem catching them.

Mustad circle hooks are the way to go. 5/0,6/0,7/0 it does not take a huge hook to catch a huge fish. Also J-hooks are more easy to bend out than a circle hook. Do not use stainless steel as they are to heavy.

P.S. If you have a really big bait going for really big catfish then bridle the bait to the circle hook. Use a small needle and some tread and tie the bait to the circle hook. Works great and keeps the bait alive much longer. Say a carp or buffalo things like that. Then you can use a bigger circle hook if needed. Good luck

Circle hooks are all I use with Cats and live bait... never had a problem with them, just size the circle hook proportional to the bait your using. small perch, 6/0 light wire circle; 12 inch bull shad, 12/0 circle.

By the way, where in Centex are you fishing? The highland lakes are my fishin grounds...
